The homeowners of this small Decatur bungalow wanted to replace their open parking area with a single car garage that would provide a sheltered parking area, but also storage for gardening equipment. The lot coverage limitation for this property made the project very challenging. We had to remove a center strip of concrete from the existing driveway and replace it with grass in order stay within the lot coverage limit. The detached garage design is consistent with the style of the main house with a hip roof and decorative brackets. We installed a carriage house garage door compatible with the bungalow style. A choppy and cluttered deck and patio area was replaced with one large space that serves as both a patio area as well as a turn-around space. By extending the existing stone retaining wall, we created a seamless connection between old and new as well as the perfect border for the backyard green space.
